It's a Hank with a purpose, however reluctant he may be to accept that purpose. The story a plot-line designed around the humor now the series has a plot with some considerable depth. I certainly did not expect the twists that Frankly serves up, but it has been done very well.
While I enjoyed everything about Belvaille Prime, that road had ended and it was past time to change directions. It has the trademark humor, Hank is narrating again (Liam who? Oh, you mean Hank? Right.), familiar characters, and breathed life back into Hank's life. Book 8, Garm, had an okay story but I couldn't get used to the different narrator and it really wasn't very funny. Book 7, I really enjoyed the 1st half of Dumber Than Dead, but the 2nd half went off the rails and I did not like it at all (it's the only HLH main story book I haven't listened to more than once), as it became a depressing tale about a grieving, drug addicted Hank who did little besides use drugs to numb his emotional pain resulting from the death of a woman he loved but who only used him until she died, and it was depressing and had little of the humor I love about the series. I love the 1st 6 books in the Hard Luck Hank series.
